UsageWatch Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 22, 2026. This policy explains how UsageWatch 0.2 handles data when your phone and our server check Codex and Claude Code quotas.
At a glance
- You can connect services, subscribe, and restore a subscription without signing in to UsageWatch. The app creates a guest account when a server feature needs one.
- Guest data is also stored on the server, not only on your phone.
- To check quota automatically, the server stores quota data and the sign-in information it needs. Sign-in information is encrypted.
- Restoring a subscription restores monitoring access, not an old account’s connections or history.
- UsageWatch has no advertising or cross-app tracking.
Account and device data
The server processes your UsageWatch account identifier, device connections and names, quota percentages, reset times, query times, and the registration information needed to send notifications to your devices. This data is linked to your UsageWatch account to keep your devices in sync.
To manage monitoring access, the server also stores eligibility for free monitoring gifts, their start and end times, and monitoring-capacity reservation records. These records establish available monitoring access, show the gift period, and manage available places. They are not used for advertising.
You can skip sign-in on the welcome screen. Skipping alone does not create a server account. The app prepares a guest account when you first connect Codex or Claude, or take an account-dependent action such as purchasing or restoring a subscription.
We process the Apple account identifier used for UsageWatch sign-in only when you choose Sign in with Apple or link a guest account. App Store purchase and restore verification is separate, as described under “Purchases and subscription restoration.”
Linking Apple later keeps the current account’s connections and devices. If that Apple Account is already linked to another UsageWatch account, the accounts are not automatically merged or overwritten.
Data used to connect Codex or Claude
Official sign-in information may include your provider account’s name, email address, account and organization identifiers, subscription plan and status, and related billing information. These fields come from the official sign-in configuration and are used for authentication and quota features, not advertising or marketing. UsageWatch does not receive your payment card or bank account details.
Codex sign-in information, the sign-in information stored by Claude’s official command-line tool, and refresh credentials obtained when you use Sign in with Apple are encrypted in the server database. Encryption keys are kept separately in server secrets. UsageWatch access tokens used for account management, sign-in renewal, and read-only viewing are stored as hashes, not as their original token values.
Provider authorization is not a special grant that can only read quota. UsageWatch limits its own actions to signing in, checking quota, and signing out. It does not send prompts or start model tasks to measure quota.
Official sign-in pages and server checks
When connecting Claude, iPhone opens Claude’s official sign-in page in the system browser. You enter your password on the official page, not into UsageWatch. You paste the returned authorization code into UsageWatch to complete the same server sign-in attempt. The code is used only to finish that attempt and is excluded from ordinary logs.
The server handles the official tool’s sign-in state and required account information in an isolated environment, then reads quota through the official tool’s quota feature. Reusable base images contain no user sign-in information. The app receives organized quota data, not the original credentials that could sign in to the provider again.
The Claude connector does not read or import your Mac files, Keychain entries, conversations, source code, local session history, or terminal status reports. Server quota data contains no conversations or repository paths. Old computer pairing and upload records belong to historical features; current connections use official authorization on the phone.
Purchases and subscription restoration
When subscriptions are enabled, Apple handles purchases and payment details. UsageWatch receives and verifies transaction identifiers, the subscription product, renewal and expiry information, revocation or billing-grace status, and an identifier associating the purchase with your UsageWatch account. These records provide monitoring access for one or two accounts, establish purchase ownership, and prevent duplicate use of one subscription across accounts. They are not used for advertising.
During purchase and restore, the app sends Apple-signed verification information to the official UsageWatch server. Verification of the current App Store identity may also process the app transaction identifier and purchase environment supplied by Apple. The app’s purchase flow does not send this verification information to custom servers.
You can tap Restore subscription to restore the number of accounts you can monitor to the current UsageWatch account. The server verifies Apple transaction information and original purchase ownership. Restoring does not move the previous account’s connections, sign-in information, or history. If another UsageWatch account is using that subscription, restoring pauses the monitoring it provides on the previous account. Background checks do not transfer access to a new account without your explicit restore action.
Recovering old connections and history is a separate action. The original account must already have been linked to Sign in with Apple; sign in to UsageWatch with the Apple Account used for that link. An unlinked guest account cannot be recovered through Apple after its sign-in information is lost. The app does not issue a separate recovery code.
Deleting a UsageWatch account does not cancel an App Store subscription. Manage or cancel it separately through Apple’s subscription settings. After account deletion, the server retains the transaction records, purchase-association identifiers, and notification deduplication identifiers needed to check original purchase ownership. Links to the deleted account and its monitoring access are removed. Retained records verify transactions, process restores, and avoid handling a notification twice; they do not recreate a deleted account or its cloud data. You can still explicitly restore an active subscription’s monitoring access to a new guest account. Apple retains its own transaction records under its policies.
iPhone, widgets, Apple Watch, and notifications
Devices cache the most recent quota data. iPhone management sign-in information stays in the app’s private system Keychain. Widgets and Apple Watch use separate, revocable read-only access information.
Low-quota alerts require you to turn them on in the app and allow iOS notifications. Apple Push Notification service delivers update signals and, when alerts are enabled, quota alert text. You can turn notifications off in the app.
Signing out ends access on this device without deleting the server account. Deleting the account permanently removes your UsageWatch account, online connections, quota data, and device access, and schedules cleanup of remaining provider and Apple sign-in information. It does not delete your OpenAI or Anthropic account.
How long data is kept
- Latest quota data: The server keeps the latest quota data for each connection.
- Sign-in attempts: Apple sign-in challenges expire after five minutes. Provider attempts expire at the time returned by the official sign-in endpoint. Expired diagnostic sign-in and alert records are removed after seven days by scheduled cleanup.
- Codex usage calendar: The server keeps successfully collected Codex main-weekly-quota observations, including the connection, query time, used percentage, window identifier, and reset time. Scheduled cleanup removes observations older than 370 days in batches.
The calendar combines quota changes and public reset announcements to estimate daily consumption and show an emoji. It does not collect work content or directly measure working hours. Personal calendar data requires account access, is not sent to the third-party reset feed, and is not included in ordinary notification text.
Reauthorizing starts a separate history segment. Disconnecting Codex or deleting the UsageWatch account deletes its related online history. Past dates without collected data cannot be reconstructed.
Guest accounts left unused
Scheduled cleanup removes a guest account’s online data only when all of these conditions hold: it has no linked Apple identity, no account-data view for over seven days, and no valid account-management sign-in information. Continued provider quota checks alone do not prevent this cleanup.
This does not mean an account is deleted seven days after a phone is lost. Its server-side sign-in refresh grant can remain valid for a 180-day idle period. Widget or Apple Watch activity can also extend the associated parent grant. Accounts with valid management sign-in information, a linked Apple identity, or a retained monitoring-capacity reservation are excluded from this automatic cleanup.
A capacity reservation made before purchase has no automatic expiry. It may remain after checkout is canceled, pending, or unfinished. It does not confirm payment or grant subscription access by itself. Ordinary personal accounts can still use Delete account, which removes the account and reservation. After online data is removed, remaining sign-in information and runtime environments are queued for cleanup.
When paid access starts, eligible existing accounts without a subscription can receive a fixed gift of seven free days once. Check the app for the actual period. This does not create an App Store subscription or charge you automatically. When the gift ends without an active Apple subscription, the server may pause monitoring and release places held only for old free connections. Valid reservations made during purchase are not affected by this release. Pausing monitoring or releasing a place does not itself delete your account, saved sign-in information, or history, or change the other data-retention and deletion rules in this policy.
Disconnection, deletion, and backups
Disconnecting deletes the connection’s online data and revokes UsageWatch access to it. Deleting an account removes its online account data and devices. Sign-out and runtime cleanup that require external services are queued and retried when those services are unavailable.
Connector sign-out clears the local official sign-in state it uses. It does not guarantee that OpenAI or Anthropic immediately invalidates every credential previously issued everywhere. You can also manage sessions on the provider’s official website.
Temporary query environments disable automatic filesystem snapshots. Reusable base images contain no user sign-in information. Hosting backups may retain encrypted historical data for the retention period configured by the operator. Deleting online data does not mean immediate removal from every hosting backup. Historical encrypted data expires with the hosting provider’s backup retention. Completed deletions must remain effective if an operator restores a backup.
Where data is processed
Vercel hosts the UsageWatch API and isolated provider-query environments. Supabase stores the database. Hosting providers process infrastructure data under their own policies.
If you choose a self-hosted server, the administrator you choose operates that API. The current Claude query environment still uses Vercel Sandbox.
